The form, composition, and detail of the exterior was designed simultaneously with the interior to ensure that the upgrades in function and enjoyment inside had a positive affect on the beauty and enjoyment of the gardens from the outside.

Photo of new kitchen with a new bank of windows above a black soapstone countertop. Olive green cabinets were carefully custom designed. A white farmhouse sink is in the center of the counter.

The kitchen re-design includes a new group of operable windows with a view to the gardens and a new opening from the Entry Hall and Living Room beyond—enhancing connections to each.

A new ceiling height in the Dining Room makes for a better proportion and more daylight. The new authentic timber trusses were designed to work in harmony with the Living Room trusses.

Added dormer windows above and a new window group (including full replacement of all win- dows and doors for energy efficiency) adds natural daylight and enhances the indoor/ outdoor experience.

The new custom stair rail balances elegance and simplicity natural materials, subtle handrail and newel profiles, and a custom metal baluster pattern.

A custom brass vanity and wall-to-wall mirror showcases a bold wallpaper scene in the Powder Rm.

The custom designed Dutch doors and stone fireplace give a distinctive sense of place.

A new dormer window group creates symmetry with the original in the Kid’s Bedroom. The Guest Bath soaking tub centers on the distinct diamond pattern window while the tiled niche sill creates the perfect place for accoutrements.

The Principal Bath and Closet re-design allows new and better use of existing spaces while simple well-proportioned design and the use of natural light to provide a sense of levity.

The cedar porches & balcony is designed to feel natural in its setting while still acknowledging the artisanal refinement inherent in a home.

“We worked with Luke to completely rework the layout of the first floor and second floor, making sure extra focus was given to core living areas like the living room, kitchen, dining room, and principal bed/bath to get them up to all the modern comforts. Luke was brilliant during the design and architecture phase in working with the existing footprint of the house, and working around areas we didn’t want to [change significantly like the Living Room]. He had subtle tweaks and ideas for how to update the historic details and augment them to be even better—like enlarging the arched openings or adding a window to bring in more of the outdoors. He has impeccable taste and aesthetics – which combined with his architectural skills and passion result in the collaboration of a lifetime.”
